Massie drops colorful anti-aid analogy, mocks Speaker Johnson with AI-generated image

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., compared America’s practice of giving aid to foreign countries to a fictional situation where someone waters their neighbor’s yard while their own house is burning.

“US foreign aid spending is like watering your neighbor’s yard while your house is on fire,” he tweeted.

Congress followed up its initial comments by sharing an AI-generated image of House Speaker Mike Johnson holding a hose as flames erupted from the house behind him.

Fox News Digital reached out to Massie for comment and a spokesperson confirmed that the image was generated using AI, specifically, Grok.

Vivek Ramaswamy responded to Massie’s comment about foreign aid by commenting, “It’s too bad – because unlike domestically, US government actors use *other people’s money* to do that.”

President-elect Donald Trump tapped Ramaswamy and Elon Musk to talk about cutting government spending through an effort called the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE).

But getting Republicans on board with major spending cuts could be problematic.

Massie colorfully warned during a WABC radio interview, “I have Republican colleagues who would rather run their mother over with a car than vote for spending cuts.”

In a post on X, GOP Rep. Chip Roy of Texas agreed with Massie’s take, commenting, “He’s not wrong….”

Conservatives have been salvaging a last-minute government spending proposal to avert the prospect of an impending partial government shutdown, as some Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, have spoken out in favor of it.

“I was hoping to see @SpeakerJohnson grow some backbone, but this pork bill shows he is a weak, weak man. The debt will continue to grow. Eventually the dollar will fail. The Democrats can’t and the Big Gov Republicans are united. Sad day for America,” said Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., in the post of X.

Fox News Digital reached out to Johnson for comment about Paul and Massie’s comments and the AI-generated photo Massie shared, but Johnson’s spokesperson pointed to the speaker’s interview on “Fox & Friends.”

Johnson noted during the interview that the spending measure kicks off the federal funding issue until March when Republicans will gain control of Congress and the White House, allowing the GOP to “decide spending in 2025.” The speaker also highlighted disaster relief on a scale and related assistance to farmers.

Earlier this year Johnson said there would be no “Christmas bus.”

Pressed this week by Fox News reporter Chad Pergram, Johnson said the measure being considered “isn’t the whole thing.”
