A Russian-born American citizen who was previously imprisoned in Russia for bribery has been given a second sentence for espionage.
Eugene Spector was sentenced to 15 years for his espionage, according to Russian news agencies. Spector was born and raised in Leningrad, Russia, but later immigrated to the US and became a citizen.
A Moscow court indicted Spector on espionage charges in August last year, although details of the case have not been made public.

The US State Department said it is aware of reports of a US citizen being sentenced in Russia and is monitoring the situation.
Spector, a former executive at a Russian medical equipment company, was sentenced in September 2022 to three and a half years in prison for offering to bribe an aide to former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

The assistant, Anastasia Alekseyeva, was jailed for 12 years in April for accepting bribes on two expensive overseas vacations.
Dvorkovich was deputy prime minister under Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev from 2012 to 2018. Dvorkovich is currently the head of the international chess federation FIDE.
