Elon Musk also takes aim at MacKenzie Scott for giving billions to liberal charities, calling the gifts ‘concerning’

• Elon Musk has once again focused on MacKenzie Scott’s charity work.

• Scott, the ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, has donated more than $19 billion to charities since 2019.

Elon Musk also focused on MacKenzie Scott about the billionaire’s philanthropy.

The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX shared on Monday an X post written by John LeFevre criticizing Scott. The author and former banker’s post highlighted Scott’s non-profit donations focused on issues such as racial equity, social justice, immigration protection, and LGBTQ+ rights.

Scott, the former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has donated more than $19 billion to more than 2,450 nonprofits since 2019 through her Yield Giving organization. His net worth remains above $30 billion due to the increase in the value of his Amazon shares.

Musk also sent criticism and one word: “About.”

The world’s richest man, who followed Donald Trump and donated more than $270 million to help the former president win re-election, has criticized Scott’s support for liberal causes in the past.

“‘Rich ex-wives who hate their ex-spouses’ should be on the list of ’causes of death for Western Civilization,'” Musk said in a now-deleted X post in March.

About two weeks later, Scott announced that he had more than doubled the size of his latest collection of donations to $640 million, spread across 361 organizations.

In May 2022, Musk said that the Democratic Party was shunning his companies because Scott donated to political committees “masquerading as charities.” He also said that he doesn’t like Bezos and this led to many other people being “caught in the crossfire.”

But Hans Peter Schmitz, the Bob and Carol Mattocks Distinguished Professor of Nonprofit Leadership at North Carolina State University, told BI in September that Scott is setting a strong example for other philanthropists to follow.

Schmitz said Scott has been making strategic contributions, investing directly, and relying on consultants to ensure he is giving to the best nonprofits in the area. He noted, however, that he let recipients decide how to use their gifts and did not tie his wealth to a program or foundation.
